4 Acts of Kindness Getting us Through the Corona Crisis

In hard times, these simple acts of kindness are making all the difference

It can be easy to feel helpless and anxious, like things are spiralling out of our control. It’s an incredibly difficult time, but what your push-notifications and news bulletins aren’t showing you are the remarkable acts of kindness that are happening in our communities.

If there’s one thing that unites us, it’s our capacity for empathy. And there’s never been a better time to put that in the spotlight. Here are just four acts of kindness that are putting smiles on our faces.

Reaching out to neighbours

How well do you really know your neighbours? So many of us go about our days without ever really stopping to get to know the people who live around us. Now is the time to reach out and connect, and freelance copywriter Becky Wass took it upon herself to create a printable postcard that you can pop through your neighbour’s doors. Connection is more important than ever before, so why not reach out to those around you?

I’ve been feeling pretty helpless watching the news. Maybe you have too? I wanted to do something about it, so I’ve made...

Donating to food banks

Resorts around the world are being forced to close their doors in a bid to stop the spread of corona. But there is some good news, as Disney resorts announced they would be donating unused food to support local communities.

Creating care packages

Now more than ever, we need to take care of the most vulnerable members of our community. And that’s what pubs and businesses across the country are doing, as they're taking it upon themselves to put together care packages for the vulnerable and the elderly. Head to social media to check whether your local is doing something similar, or gather some supplies and get to work yourself. With a bit of help from friends, and the power of social media, you’ll soon be reaching those who need it most.

We have been overwhelmed with the need for the care packages we started and have run out fast!! There are so many people...

Supporting small businesses

In these difficult times, small businesses are going to be struggling. Whether it’s independent cafes, craft stores, or self-employed people, their livelihood is at real risk. There are many ways that we can reach out to support small businesses, such as buying gift cards to use when things are back to normal, or checking in with owners to see how you can help. Think about the services you normally use, there may be a way to continue supporting them.

For the time-being, the best thing we can do is to do our best. Whether that's joining in with community schemes, or carving out time to call up and check in with a relative, kindness and community spirit is what will sustain us.
