What is lunar living?

Do you find yourself feeling impacted by the full moon? Kirsty Gallagher, moon mentor and author, explores the power of the lunar cycle and how we can utilise this to make positive change

Have you ever woken up one morning feeling overly emotional or questioning certain areas of your life? Are there days when you feel like your intuition is so strong, it seems like you have all the answers, and everything falls into place almost effortlessly? Or how about the nights you lie awake staring at the ceiling or sudden cravings for solitude and alone time?

What if I told you that all of these things, and so much more, could be explained by working with the ever-changing cycles of the moon? And, even more so, that by coming back into alignment with this ancient wisdom and ebb and flow, you could make huge positive changes in your life.

The power of the moon

Just as the moon affects the tides, she exerts the same gravitational pull on the watery inner world of our emotions, intuition, dreams and soul. Our emotions are often a good indicator of areas in life that are out of alignment or where we need to make a change. As the moon illuminates our inner world, she helps us to see clearly which areas of our lives need attention or where we are most stuck.

As we begin to work with this powerful lunar energy, we gradually begin to take back control of our lives, beginning to work with the lunar phases to release and let go of what we no longer need to create space to invite in more of what we do. This helps us to begin to live back in alignment with a natural rhythm and flow and connects us back to the power of nature, something we have lost touch within today’s linear ‘man-made’ world.

Working with the lunar cycle

Month by month we set intentions by the new moon, and do all we can to bring them to life during the waxing phases. The full moon is the time of completion and illuminating what stands in the way, the waning phase gives us the opportunity for release and letting go. Each month we infuse our intentions with more and more energy until they come to life.

The simplest way to begin weaving lunar living into your life is to work with the new and full moon.

The New Moon is the beginning of your lunar journey. This is the time to get clear on what you want to create, manifest, and put into motion in the coming lunar cycle. Use the energies of the new moon to set your dreams, goals and intentions for the lunar month ahead.

As the moon waxes and grows bigger and brighter in the sky every night, use the growing energy and light of the moon to do all you can to bring your new moon dreams and intentions to life. As the moon’s energy grows, so will yours, encouraging you to take action, go out into the world, be seen and heard and take brave bold steps towards achieving your dreams.

The Full Moon brings a moment of completion and also an honest check-in. Take the time at the full moon to look back over the first half of the lunar cycle. Celebrate what worked and what you achieved and take an honest look at what didn’t and what you allowed to get in the way.

The waning part of the lunar cycle is when the moon grows smaller in the sky every night. This is the part of the lunar cycle that we use to let go of all that stood in the way of achieving your dreams and intentions. Use the moon’s waning energy to let go of doubts, fears, people, situations, beliefs and anything that stood in your way.

The moon wanes all the way down to the dark moon, which needs a mention, as this is the lowest energy point and most emotional part of the lunar cycle. This is the end of the waning moon when the moon is barely visible in the sky but hasn’t yet become new.

This is the time of the lunar cycle to rest, pause, and take your awareness inwards. It’s really important at this part of the cycle that you take note of your emotions and what they are trying to show and signpost you to, as this will help set your intentions for the next lunar month.
